    Look… I simply tell people that, first of all, Linux distros vary on hardware support, so you may have to switch to get your system working. Second, I always recommend that people start with either PCLinuxOS or Mandriva. It doesn’t get any simpler than either of those two. After they get used to them, I recommend they try a few out and see what they’re most happy with. I don’t have a problem with any particular distro, but I just think life is much easier for the beginner in either PCLinuxOS or Mandriva. I’d be shocked if any of them EVER have to open a terminal in either of them. Not that the terminal is bad, but not for the newbie unless there’s no choice.

    I thought Ubuntu was specifically designed to be the *most* user friendly distro for those accustomed to MS Windoze. Yet you mention not one whit about Ubuntu. You seem to have an uncomfortably militant about what a newbie *must* do before installing a Linux OS. It’s a harsh approach that will only turn potential users away from Linux.
